YMU Group

Case Studies YMU Group

YMU Group approached us with the goal of diversifying recruitment for five key accounting apprenticeship roles. With the enthusiastic leadership of Andy the Director of their Business Management division, who was dedicated to enhancing diversity in apprenticeship recruitment, we embarked on a targeted outreach strategy to introduce these opportunities to previously untapped talent pools.

Our campaign began by leveraging our extensive network, sending customised e-shots that highlighted the roles and YMU's commitment to inclusivity and professional growth opportunities. This proactive outreach was supported by follow-up calls to assess candidate interest and address initial inquiries, ensuring a personalised approach from the outset.

We utilised a multi-platform strategy to maximise reach, employing our D&I jobs board—accessed by over 2,500 potential candidates—and promoting the roles across social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Engaging posts and videos helped articulate the value of the roles and the benefits YMU offered.

To further engage interested candidates, we hosted several virtual briefing sessions. These events allowed candidates to gain a clearer understanding of the positions, interact directly with our team, and clarify any questions regarding the application process.

Our recruitment strategy was meticulously planned, including detailed discussions with YMU to align on hiring criteria and processes. We ensured that the selection methods were equitable, offering every candidate a fair chance to demonstrate their capabilities.

A significant part of our approach involved personalised support for each candidate. From refining CVs to meet YMU’s expectations to comprehensive interview preparation, our team worked closely with candidates, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to enhance their confidence and readiness.

We conducted preliminary screening interviews to assess suitability and provided detailed feedback, further refining our candidate pool to ensure that only the most aligned individuals were forwarded to YMU for final interviews.

Following successful placements, our commitment continued. We provided ongoing support to both the new hires and YMU to facilitate smooth onboarding and integration into the workplace. This support included regular check-ins and addressing any initial issues promptly, ensuring both parties were satisfied and any potential challenges were handled proactively.

The results of this comprehensive and thoughtful approach were pretty awesome:

  • Over 250 applications were meticulously screened to ensure quality and fit.
  • We achieved a completely diverse shortlist, with 42 CVs presented to YMU.
  • From these, 25 candidates advanced to the interview stage, culminating in the successful placement of five talented individuals: three young women – one of whom was disabled and one of whom had experienced homelessness, one male care leaver, and one young mixed-heritage aviation graduate pivoting to finance.
  • Remarkably, two years post-recruitment, all hired candidates remained with YMU, underscoring the success of our matching and support processes.

This case study exemplifies Radical Recruit's commitment to transforming recruitment practices by focusing not just on filling positions but on creating pathways for sustained employment and career growth for individuals who are often overlooked for early careers opportunities. By partnering with organisations like YMU Group, we continue to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, proving that a conscientious approach to recruitment can yield exceptional results for both employers and candidates.
